Macmillan Online Conference 2012

Earlier this month I presented a webinar as part of the Macmillan Online Conference, a whole week of live presentations for English-language teachers across all disciplines, from primary to adult and methodology.

I was in illustrious company. Carol Read, Angela Llanas and Viv Lambert presented in the primary sessions; while the methodology and adult sessions were similarly overflowing with big names: Scott Thornbury, Adrian Underhill, Pete Sharma, Vaughan Jones, Louis Rogers and Miles Craven all did hour-long sessions.

As you might expect from these presenters, the topics discussed were fascinating, challenging and varied. For young learners there was a focus on reading and storytelling throughout – but I particularly enjoyed Viv Lambert’s practical approach to ‘raising cultural awareness in the primary classroom’, in which she encouraged us to adopt a multi-cultural mind-set in the classroom. Later in the week we were treated to sessions on pronunciation, grammar teaching and scaffolding. And the great thing is, all this was entirely free.

If you weren’t among the 4,300 participants who joined the Macmillan Online Conference live over the course of the week, don’t worry, you can download all of the presentations from the Macmillan English website and even watch the sessions again. This is a fantastic resource for continued professional development so I urge you to take a look!
