News item with interactive activities now live on MEC

Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of our new-style news item!

We are now publishing a weekly news item that includes interactive activities, in response to feedback from MEC customers.

These activities have been graded to suit each of the three language levels: Easy, Average and Difficult. The activities focus on students’ understanding of the news item article, as well as practising related vocabulary and language points.

You can view the interactive activities by clicking the ‘Activity’ button at the bottom of the news item article. Your students can save their marks in their Markbook as they would with any other activity in MEC. You can also access the Macmillan English Dictionary Online through the activity. And we still include our Food for thought questions and Vocabulary help.

The first of our new-style news items, adapted for MEC from an article originally published in the Guardian Weekly, is about a landslide victory for Burma’s National League for Democracy, inspired by their leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

You can find this story in the News Items section on your Work Area screen.

We are keen to hear your views so let us know what you think of these news items.
